Matt (Song-Min) Schinn, head researcher into “Rapid In vitro Screening for the Location – Dependent Effects of Unnatural Amino Acids on Protein Expression and Activity” was recently rewarded for all of his hard work with a publication in Biotechnology and Bioengineering.  Matt was assisted in his research by William Bradley, Ashtyn Groesbeck, Jeffery Wu, Andrew Broadbent and Dr. Bradley Bundy.

]]> Undergraduate Whitney Bills recently received approval from BYU to pursue an ORCA project, RAPID.  Described on ORCA’s website, we have an excerpt here: “Due to the large number of chemicals and mixtures in worldwide commerce and the laborious process of testing them, we still know very little about the endocrine disrupting capabilities of most chemicals. Back in 1996 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aware of the growing concern of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC), mandated that potential chemicals be tested.The normal process in testing for EDCs is labor intensive, costly, and requires highly specialized instrumentation and training. The purpose of this project is to optimize a newly developed fast, inexpensive EDC biosensor, termed Rapid Adaptable Portable In-vitro Detection orRAPID so that it can be used in human blood and urine.”
