The Provo City Parks and Recreation Department held their annual Kids Science Palooza at the new Provo Recreation Center on 22 March.  Thousands of children came through the fair to see science come alive.

We were invited and shared our mini yeast reactors!  Because the kids were the engineers, they chose how much sugar and how much yeast to put in, in order to produce the most ethanol and blow up the largest balloon.

]]> Come onIMG_4140Foothills Elementary School in Orem, UT agreed to let Dr. Bundy’s lab come and present their latest Engineering Adventure to their teaching faculty.  This was our first attempt and the teachers were so helpful and kind in offering suggestions and putting up with our mistakes.

During the orientation,  Kristen Wilding, P.h.D. Candidate, presented a complete lesson and science activity that could be used in the classroom.  The lesson focused on micro-organisms followed by a demonstration that used micro-organisms to build mini yeast reactors that produce ethanol.  After the demonstration, the teachers offered great suggestions and advice for how we can improve our lesson plans and even offered some ideas for demonstrations we can create in the future.
